The myth lives on

The Sherlock Holmes museum in Meiringen lets you into the exciting world of the most famous fictional detective of all time; Sherlock Holmes.

The museum is Located near the Reichenbach Falls, the place where the famous detective died. The small museum will take you right into the stories directly living room of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, in 221b Baker Street, London.

The Museum opened on 4th May 1991, in the English Church in Meiringen, for the 100th anniversary of the death of the detective, and was designed by the English architect couple, Silvia and John Reid.

In the museum will take you through the stories and you will be able to the collected authentic exhibition pieces of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes making you feel like you’re in the Victorian era.

The museum’s unique feature is its authentic reconstruction of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson’s world and living room. The interiors of the museum was carefully reconstructed according to the different clues found in the stories, and will allow to enter and explore the world of Sherlock Holmes.

What we’ll do

Sherlock Holmes fans will find in the museum multiple objects related to the stories of their favorite detective in these authentically created rooms, that will let them experience and feel close to the Sherlock Holmes detective cases.

Dedicated to the memory of the world’s most famous detective, the small museum will take its visitors through an audio guide, explaining the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and of course his best-known character. Among the different objects, you will be able to see Holmes’ last letters to Watson, his struggle with Moriarty and the Reichenbach falls in 1891. Among the highlights of the visit, is the reconstructed living room, where much care has been given in trying to include everything mentioned about the room in any Sherlock Holmes story.

The visit counts approximately half an hour, guided by an audio tour that is very thorough and easy to use. After the visit, you can take on the Sherlock Holmes Trail in Meiringen that will guide you through the town followed by many information boards regarding the detective and the author.
